Position: Senior Project Engineer


Manage large capital projects across PVS Chemicals.  Supervise other project engineers leading a portfolio of projects across PVS.  Serves as a mentor for plant level project and process engineers.     

 Primary Responsibilities (May include but not limited to):

  • Perform detailed process design work for major capital projects, includes developing heat and material balances, equipment sizing, process flow diagrams, and supporting cost estimates.
  • Work with outside engineering firms to review detailed engineering design work on larger projects representing PVS manufacturing and engineering on these projects.  
  • Perform feasibility studies and preliminary engineering designs (pre-FEL and FEL1) to support new projects.
  • Support Plant requests for help troubleshooting existing operations when necessary.
  • Provide mentoring to corporate subsidiary assigned engineers on process design, PVS process technology, the corporate FEL process and review capital and expense projects proposed by operating facilities (process design options, cost estimates, completeness relative to FEL process).
  • Support PVS PSM processes both for corporate projects and local site issues when appropriate.   Participate in Risk Management (including audits and HAZOP’s) and Incident Investigation activities and help sites with technical compliance challenges.
  • Work with Plant managers to insure plant corporate engineers have clearly developed objectives for projects. Provide input on the performance of individual engineers and work to develop appropriate training and career development plans.
  • Select and support key design tools (software) being used as part of PVS process designs work.Uphold the fundamentals of the Nicholson Nine and Responsible Care Guiding Principles. Environmental Health, Safety and Security are a responsibility of every PVS Employee.

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing for the development of engineering documents, project status reports/presentations, managing contractors, and other internal and external communications.
  • Excellent problem solving techniques and quantitative, analytical skills. Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to handle diverse and significant workload.

  • Required Education / Skills / Equivalent Experience (Prior to hire / transfer):
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (chemical, electrical, mechanical preferred)
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in project management, chemical industry experience required.
  • Experience with major capital projects
  • Experience supervising people at various levels
  • Familiarity with the following:
    • Process design software tools
    • OSHA Process Safety Management 29 CFR 1910.119
    • Experience with Responsible Care and various PSM tools (i.e. Hazop, MOC)
    • Familiarity with FEL design approaches
    • Experience with developing standards / procedures for plant operations 
  • Ability to travel 50%.
