Position: Chemical Engineer / Plant Engineer
Description: The PVS Technologies Detroit Plant Chemical Engineer is primarily responsible for providing chemical engineering support to the PVS Technologies Detroit manufacturing location. The engineer plays a key role in capital project scoping, execution, process safety, supporting facility improvements, and process design.
Responsibilities (May include but are not limited to):
- Facilitate improvements of existing operations. Improvements will have input from multiple disciplines: operators, loaders, maintenance and management as needed.
- Compile FEL1, FEL2, FEL3 documents using PVS project management system for capital projects.
- Potentially assist sales team with jar tests, plant trials and new product development.
- Understand how plant operates (hands on method) and understand the different capabilities of the plant.
- Assist in new permits and permit modifications.
- Stay up to date on new equipment designs, new products and processes and help implement to continue to improve plant efficiencies.
- Continuously look for opportunities to improve plant operations for safety, cost reduction, and energy efficiencies.
- Assist in the development of an estimated timeline and cost required to accomplish a project.
- Participate in Hazop analysis and reviews.
- Uphold the fundamentals of the Nicholson Nine and Responsible Care Guiding Principles. Environmental Health, Safety and Security are a responsibility of every PVS Employee.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Provide 24/7 support for critical situations.
- Assist in the development of an estimated timeline and cost required to accomplish a project.
- Conduct management of change as needed.
- Participate in Responsible Care and Department of Homeland security initiatives.
- Assist sites in SOP development, review and implementation.
- Participate in other activities and assignments as necessary.

Supervision Received
Must be disciplined, self-motivated and mentally alert with the ability to work with minimal guidance and supervision to meet PVS Technologies objectives and deadlines.
Required Education / Competencies / Equivalent Experience (Prior to hire / transfer):
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
- 0-5 years’ experience in Chemical industry.
- Strong willingness to learn and desire to be hands on and in a plant setting.
- Demonstrated professional demeanor, ethical conduct and excellent reputation for integrity.
- Strong ability to work well with others. Ability to be a part of a multi-functional team.
- Ability to recognize a potential problem and have a strong desire to resolve it.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate, influence and negotiate with others.
- Demonstrated ability to organize work and set priorities to meet deadlines while working independently.
- Proficient with MS Office applications; especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
