Operations Supervisor – Illinois



The Production Supervisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining operating procedures and process controls, and directing the activities in the operating units in order to manufacture and ship products to customers in a safe, environmentally responsible, reliable, and cost effective manner.  The Production Supervisor will also be responsible for managing small capital projects typically less than $100K.


In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the Production Supervisor is empowered to manage work priority, engage the proper resources to develop and implement equipment, process, and administrative standards, identify training opportunities throughout the plant, and recommend asset selection criteria and installation standards.  The Production Supervisor will monitor department metrics relative to safety, environment, reliability, quality, efficiency, and cost control in order to continually improve performance.


HSE&S Responsibilities


  • Ensure all policies, guidelines and standards are practiced and enforced
  • OSHA Process Safety Management 29 CFR 1910.119
  • EPA Risk Management Program 40 CFR Part 68
  • DHS Appropriations Act of 2007 CFATS
  • All other applicable regulatory requirements
  • ICCA Responsible Care
  • Alternate contact for regulatory agencies that visit the plant site
  • Incident investigation and mitigation to prevent recurrence
  • Near miss investigation and mitigation to strive for Beyond Zero
  • Recognize and reward employees that demonstrate outstanding HSE&S behavior
  • Complete and conduct applicable training as needed
  • Audit participation and mitigation


Job Specific Responsibilities


  1. Operator Training Program
  2. Precision Manufacturing at PVS (PMP) in Production
    • Start Up, Shutdown, Emergency and Routine Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Checklists
    • Critical Operating Parameters (COP)
    • Engineering Controls
    • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
    • Pressure Profile
    • Mist and Moisture Testing
    • Interpass Conversion Testing
    • Individual Asset Performance
    • Raw Material Efficiency and Utility Usage Rates
    • Operator Condition Monitoring for optimal asset management
  3. Shutdown and TA Planning, Scheduling, and Project Management
  4. Maintenance Work Orders and Backlog Management
  5. Zero overdue PM’s and HSES corrective actions
  6. Project management for small capital and expense projects
  7. Project scope development and justification

Specific Job Requirements


  • Excellent safety standards
  • BS in Chemical Engineering strongly preferred but not required for qualified candidates
  • Chemical manufacturing experience
  • Supervisor skills and experience
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPer certification
  • Respirator Fit Test
  • Positive change leader
  • Able to work effectively with competing priorities
  • Project management skills to ensure optimal life cycle costs, schedule, and budget
  • Verbal and written communication skills with multiple levels in the organization and external suppliers

Preferred Experience


  • Experience working in a corrosive environment
  • Experience working in a PSM and RMP facility
  • Experience in applying industry RAGAGEPs – Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (API, NACE, ISA, ANSI, ASTM, NFPA, etc.)
  • Experience developing training program for Operators and Maintenance as it relates to process safety and equipment reliability
  • Experience in HAZOPs and LOPA
  • Experience in Total Productive Maintenance, Six Sigma, 5S, RCFA, FMECA or RCM
